10,000 Votes

September 24th, 2009

voteAs you can imagine, it’s very busy here in the office. We’re all running on coffee and compliments.

Voting began last night at 6:00PM for ArtPrize 2009. Just now, we passed 10,000 votes counted. Thank you to everyone for jumping in and making the last 24 hours so frenzied (in a good way).

If you didn’t notice yet, on the left side of the homepage you can click links to view the Top 100, Top 75, Top 50 and Top 25.

It’s rather addictive.

Calling them votes is really a misnomer. You should call them clicks.

For example, if you take a artist and switch from up to down, up to no vote, or down to no vote, etc., every click is counted as a vote. You could do this 50 times with one artist and each click would be counted as one vote, so you could manipulate the count so that it is 50 votes higher, even though after all of your machinations, your up vote is still an up vote. Trust me, this has been tried and proven true several times at hours when no one else is voting.

So they are really clicks, not votes.

I thought this whole event was to benefit local artists; ie. “starving artists”. This has become a “them that has, gets” event where if you are good at marketing like Bliss or have a lot of money like Gilmore (and others), you have an advantage. How frustrating it must be for simple artists; to be passionate about your artistic gift and so blessedly talented, only to realize that this event is motivated by one person’s ego. The real winners are Rick and the artists who have access to money.
