Lunchbox Series: ArtPrize Artists

Seven artists competing in ArtPrize 2009 spoke during the Lunch Box Series. Two couples showing in separate venues, one collaboration and one portrait artist.

In order of the dates they presented:


Paul Kaiser, a self-taught artist from Brooklyn, NY brought his empathetic portraits of American soldiers in Iraq shown at the Kendall College of Art and Design lobby.


Jason Jay Stevens and Leslie Raymond: Stevens’ installation at Old Federal involved fictional artifacts collected from eleven layers of our atmosphere, while Raymond is a video artist whose animated figure hovering over a patchwork of landscape exhibited at 106 S. Division.


Jimmy Kuehnle and Mimi Kato: Kuehnle is best known as a giant inflatable sculpture hovering through the streets downtown, while Kato was exhibiting in the windows of the Grand Rapids Art Museum with multiple images of herself in a stylized cityscape.


Stafford Smith and Ritzu Katsumata collaborated on Fearscape a live duet between violin and digital imagery presented on the second floor of Old Federal.
